Doing video makeup can be pretty intimidating. I have to be honest, it makes me feel uneasy, too. That’s why my YouTube channel is not a regular as it could be. But I have narrowed it down to 4 steps so even a novice can feel confident in front of the camera.
Video Makeup – Step 1: Prep Skin
This is the fundemental step. Don’t skip it. Treat your skin to manage problem areas. If your skin is dry, apply moisturizer. If it’s oily, apply a water-based/oil control moisturizer. You can also apply face primer for this step. Many face primers have skin care elements built right it, so you can moisturize and treat the problem in 1 step. You can apply these products with your fingers or a brush.
Video Makeup – Step 2: Foundation
Apply medium to full coverage foundation all over your face – focusing on blemishes to even out skin tone. Blend out foundation at hairline, jawbone, and neck to avoid harsh lines. You can apply your foundation with a brush or sponge. (Avoid fingers).
Video Makeup – Step 3: Contouring
This is probably your most important, and possibly, most intimidating step. Your foundation makes your face have one complexion. This is good but you will appear flat and 1 dimensional. You will need a matte (no shimmer) bronzer or blush to bring back the definition to your face. Apply bronzer/contour to the hollows of your cheeks, around the hairline from temple to temple, and at the jaw, blending out at the neck. The contour can be a liquid or cream foundation 2 -3 shades darker than your usual color, or a powder/blush. This should be applied with a fluffy brush.
Video Makeup – Step 4: Pop of Color
This is the fun part. You can add a lipstick, blush or some eyeshadow with eyeliner to complete the look.
