Over the years I have come across some pretty cool, and talented photographers. We have built good creative relationships and we like to work with clients together. Here I will give a little behind the scenes of a recent client that was referred from a photographer. I will share her story about her special occasion makeup and hair, done by yours truly.
Special Occasion Makeup and Hair: The Prep
It is very important to make sure your skin and hair has been properly prepped for a pro to make you up, and style your hair appropriately. I always ask for my clients to come with her face clean and free of any makeup. I also ask her to apply her normal moisturizer, if she has one, but nothing else. Then I can assess the quality of her skin and choose the appropriate facial products for her.
Next, the client is always asked to make sure her hair is clean and dry. (This is a big one because if the hair isn’t dry, I have to spend unnecessary time blowing out her hair). Then, I like the hair to be free of any products as well. If the client is wanting a style that needs a curling wand or flat iron, it is best not to mix hair products. Especially since we will be using heated tools to get the desired look.
Thankfully, Denise did all that I asked and came as is!
Special Occasion Makeup and Hair: The Styling
Denise was having a photo shoot and requested a fierce face with a bold red lip. She was pretty open with her hair styling. Since her hair was long, and had kind of a bayalage look, I thought that big flowy curls would compliment her makeup and show off her beautiful hair color. Even though we had great conversation and look forward to working together in the future – she was still able to get her hair and makeup done in about 90 minutes.
Special Occasion Makeup and Hair: Final Look
Here is her final look! I forgot to get a picture of her hair from behind, but her hair and makeup did enhance her natural beauty.
