I have been very happy with the powder brow products I have bought from Anastasia Beverly Hills, AKA, ABH. I have been looking at her shadows for a long time, and when I saw this one, I thought this was the perfect one to try. It retails for $42 and can be bought online, or any store that sells ABH products. This palette has 14 shadows – 3 metallic and 11 mattes. (Unlike the popular Urban Decay Naked palettes which are mostly shimmers and only give you a couple of mattes).
The palette comes in a pretty rose-toned felt container. It feels good in your hand, and stands out from my other palettes because of its soft, lighter shade. However, it does not take long for the felt to get dirty. (reminiscent of the first Naked palette). After awhile it doesn’t look so great. I wish that would have use a different material that does not get dirty so fast.
I think this is about as good as it gets for a 14 eyeshadow palette. One of the best things about this is the magnetic closure which allows the lid to stay closed. I have traveled a couple of times and I have never found it opened on accident. I love that feature!
I have to say I am very happy with the way ALL 14 shades apply. The are buttery, creaming, and all blend so well. The metallic blend well and so do the mattes. I love that you can make a day look or evening look with these colors – with ease. I really like the 2-sided brush that came with the palette. I have used these colors with dry brushes, damp brushes, natural fiber brushes and synthetic brushes. This application is AWESOME!
So, I don’t know if my love affair with Urban Decay has clouded my judgment. (If you follow my blog you know 1 – I love Urban Decay, and 2 – Urban Decay is known for being HIGHLY pigmented). But when I apply this product I find myself constantly wanting more color payoff. I layer a lot to get the look I want. Now on the flip side – kudos to ABH for making a product that is definitely buildable. I just wish I didn’t have to build so much when I am doing more than a day look.
On my Instagram Stories, I did a test of this product without primer. It lasted about 8 hours. By 10 hours, it was barely there. Now I will say, with shadow primer, or MAC paintpot as a primer it will last 12+ hrs. But we have to score the product as it stands alone. Take home message: use a primer if you are going from day to night and you don’t want to have to completely redo your eye makeup.
Overall: 4.3/5 = B+
I actually really love this palette. I have been using it almost every time I wear makeup since I got it. As you can tell it makes me think a lot about my UD Naked palettes. I think this is a perfect palette to add to your personal stash because there are so many mattes you can mix and match with your Naked palettes. Also, I love the warm undertones of most of the colors. That makes them really Brown Girl friendly. I really like the richness of the colors that are matte, that in other palettes would have been satin or shimmer. It’s a great palette – just don’t say I didn’t warn you when your felt covering gets dirty from touching it.
