A few months ago, a mother contacted me about doing her daughter’s hair and makeup for her very first military ball. She really wanted to make sure her daughter was happy, so we booked a trial run a few weeks before the ball.
When I got there, I found out the daughter, Elizabeth, was in the ROTC and this was her first ball. She was not quite sure how she wanted her hair, or makeup, and she left me to my own devices. As an artist – that was music to my ears, so to speak. 🙂
She told me her dress was black, with asymmetric neckline, with 1 sleeveless side. She has thick, beautiful blonde hair, so I decided to do my favorite. Low, side-do, messy bun, on the side that does not have a sleeve.
Now the makeup. She didn’t give me any input. But from chatting (I did most of the talking, LOL) she let me know she likes bolder makeup. So I gave her a soft, smoky eye, with a bold deep berry lipstick. She has beautiful porcelain skin, so I contoured to accentuate her jaw and cheeks. (Oh, course while still keeping it age appropriate). She has great natural lashes, so we didn’t use falsies. Just last primer and nice, thick black mascara.
Why I love What I Do
I really liked getting to know her and her mom through this process. I found out we are practically neighbors and we all really love football. I am so glad that she is young enough that hopefully I can work with her again for future balls and proms. She is a beauty, inside and out. And so many people have told me she could be a model.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special day.
