This year most of my clients have been for 1 of 3 services: #1: bridal needs, #2 boudoir needs and #3 makeup lesson needs. I love the diversity and creativity of all 3 services. Bridal clients tend to want a more timeless beauty look. Makeup lesson clients can run the gambit of on-trend makeup looks to everyday makeup looks, and boudoir clients lend themselves to the most dramatic and artistically fun for me. Today I will be walking you through boudoir makeup & hair.
Boudoir Makeup & Hair
The Hair
Most clients want hair with some kind of body, or movement, that can be manipulated during the shoot. They want it loose, but still have some shape to it. But they also want it neat enough to where it doesn’t look like they just rolled out of bed (at least not at the beginning of the shoot). This particular client wanted her hair to have a swooped shape in the front, with looseness so that it could be moved around. She also wanted loose waves in the rest of her hair.
I was able to achieve this look by using a tapered curling want in the back, sides and crown of her head. I then used a flat iron to give her that structured curled swoop she wanted in the front. To help it last, while the hair was still warm, I pin curled the front swooped section while I did her makeup (for about 45 minutes). After her look was complete, I ran my fingers though her curls from the curling want to make beachy waves and used a small tooth comb to comb out, and style, the front swoop.
The Makeup
This client had somewhat uneven skin, so my main objective was to even out her skin tone. I did this by using Becca Cosmetics Ultimate Coverage 24 Hour Foundation. I then gave her a gentle smokey eye, and bold black eyeliner to complement her hooded eyes. Then she left me to her own devices for the lips. So, per my usual, I when for a bold lipstick by custom mixing a hot pink lipstick with a purple lipstick. To finish her off, to photographer asked me to make sure she had enough highlighter to make her cheeks pop in low-light pictures.
