How often should I clean my brushes?
When you are doing daily makeup, and you want to change the color (for example for eye shadows), you can just put some rubbing alcohol on a tissue and rub your brush. The alcohol will remove the product particles very easily and will also allow the brush to dry very quickly.
If you wear makeup most days, I recommend washing your brushes monthly. If you wear makeup mostly on the weekend, you can get away with cleaning them every 2-3 months. You can use brush cleaner, shampoo, or baby shampoo. Most fluffy bushes (eye shadow, blush, powder) are made of natural fibers from animals. Cleaning them with shampoo is a great way to preserve the longevity of your brushes by moisturizing the bristles – that’s why shampoo is a popular option. Many concealer and foundation brushes are made of synthetic fibers, but this does not mean cleaning is less important. You still want to clean these regularly to remove the product build up.
Clean brushes will last longer (10-15 years), work better (because they won’t be weighed down with product), feel better on your skin, and provide a sanitary environment for your beautiful canvas! 🙂
